The Easiest Way to Improve Your Child's School Year

August 13, 2018

Every year, our children load up on pencils, paper, backpacks and other school supplies. As parents, we do our best to prepare them for the school year. So take a moment to ask yourself, "Is there anything else I can do to better help my child?" Act now and take the extra step that will improve your child's grades, self-esteem and overall schoolwork. Follow along to learn more...
Back-To-School Eye Exams
Healthy eyes are happy eyes and your student will be happy too! We recommend a general eye exam every year. Use back-to-school season as a simple reminder that it's time for the family's annual eye exams. Your optometrist will go through the normal tests and precautions for every patient. However, it's important for students to have their eyes examined before school starts so they can take in as much as possible during their classes.

With the wrong prescription, your student could be missing valuable notes, lesson plans or homework assignments that will eventually hurt their grades and performance. Children are growing every year and depending on their age, they may even experience random growth spurts. As they grow, their eyes are growing and their vision is still developing. It's not surprising that your child's prescription may change from year to year. To be exact, our vision tends to change until we reach our late teen years and early 20s.
New Glasses for a New School Year
When your family goes back-to-school shopping for clothes and shoes, don't forget about their glasses. If your child's prescription changes, help them find a new pair of glasses that will fit them best. New fads and trends are always coming and going so check out the latest fashions available this year. Your child may want a classic look for their glasses, which never go out of style.

You may also look into contact lenses, especially if your child is involved in sports. If your student does try contacts for the first time this school year, make sure they know the proper way to care for their lenses. Remember, there are often back-to-school promotions for contacts and glasses. Talk to your optometrist or one of their representatives before making your purchase.
