Pick a Side: Big Shades or Small Sunglasses

Updated: Jun 14, 2021

It’s a classic debate that changes over time. Big frames or small specs, which do you prefer? There’s no shame in owning multiple pairs of glasses, but consider having a go-to pair for everyday wear. This is when it gets tricky. Do you love the attention from large lenses or is it better to ride the trend of tiny frames? See what suits you best and follow along to explore all options.

Big and Bold Sunglasses

Let’s bring it back to the ‘60s. Ever since the mod style picked up, big frames have been around. When trying on bigger glasses, remember there are several shapes available. Go for the large square, round or cat-eye styles. Allow your glasses to make a statement. Enjoy the benefits of maximum coverage. Your eyes and face will be guarded from the sun.

Big sunglasses continued into the ‘70s and ‘80s. Today there are several shapes with different colors and various tints for the lenses. Especially with designer brands, notice the special logos or signature emblems that adorn each pair of glasses. For example, try an oversized pair of Versace, Gucci or CHANEL eyewear.

Small and Sleek Sunglasses

Count on the 1990s to mix things up. While the three last decades were all about big glasses, the ‘90s came in with tiny eyewear. Smaller glasses also re-emerged during the late 2010s and early 2020s. Think about thin circular frames or sleek geometric glasses. Even though these sunglasses do not cover as much skin, they are a true accessory.

Wear tiny glasses halfway down the nose or up like a headband. Small sunglasses also fit with other accessories like your jewelry or handbag. Tiny frames won’t get in the way when you have a face full of makeup. These glasses are small, but they bring more attention to your face. If you want to complete your look with some small frames, try Andy Wolf or Prada glasses.
